The ranges you will actually see

Around Huddersfield, Leeds and Halifax, a small one page site with clear wording tends to land in the low hundreds to around a thousand. A proper small business site of five to eight pages, written and structured properly, usually sits somewhere between one and four thousand. Anything with booking systems, member areas or a shop climbs from there.

If someone quotes far below those numbers, you are usually buying a template with your logo dropped in. Sometimes that is fine. Just know that is what it is.

What actually moves the price

Not page count. What moves it is how much thinking has to happen. Writing your services in a way a customer understands takes time. So does working out which of your six services should be on the front page and which should be buried.

Photography moves it too. A site with real pictures of your work always outperforms one leaning on stock images, but somebody has to take them.

Where the money gets wasted

Two places. First, paying for pages nobody reads because they were listed in a brief. Second, rebuilding in two years because the first site was never set up so you could edit it yourself.

How to budget sensibly

Work out what one good new customer is worth to you over a year. If a decent job is worth two thousand pounds, then a two thousand pound site paying for itself with one enquiry is not really a cost, it is a slow purchase. If your average job is forty pounds, you need volume, and that changes what we should build.

Bring that number to the first conversation. It makes the whole decision simpler.
