Looking good is not the job

A site can be tidy, modern, nicely photographed and still produce nothing. That is because looking good and being persuasive are separate skills. Most sites fail at the second one while passing the first with room to spare.

The usual culprit is that the site talks about the business instead of the problem the visitor arrived with. Someone lands on your page mid problem. If the first thing they read is your company history, they are gone.

What it is costing you

Every month a site like this stays up, you are paying for traffic that leaves. If you run any ads at all, you are paying twice. Worse, you start to believe your market does not buy online, so you stop investing in the one channel that could have worked all along.

In a city like Leeds you are competing with businesses who worked this out already. They are not better than you. They just answered the question faster.

The fixes in order

First, the top of the page. State plainly what you do, who for, and where. If you serve Leeds and the surrounding towns, say it in words a person would use.

Second, proof near the point of decision. Reviews, job photos, named clients. Not a testimonial slider halfway down where nobody scrolls.

Third, one obvious next step per page. Not four competing options.

Then measure something

Pick one number. Enquiries per month is fine. Without that you are just redecorating and guessing.

Where to start

You do not always need a rebuild. Sometimes the top third of three pages does the job. That is worth finding out before you spend on anything bigger.
