Why the question comes up

Most people asking this have had a WordPress site that got slow, or broke after an update, or needed somebody paid every month just to keep it standing. That is a fair reason to ask.

I build in Framer, so I will be upfront about the bias. I will also tell you where WordPress still wins.

Where Framer wins

Speed, out of the box, without work. Maintenance, because there are no plugins to update and nothing to break on a Tuesday morning. Editing, because you can change your own text without fear.

For a business site of five to fifteen pages that needs to look sharp and load fast, it is simply less hassle for less money over time.

Where WordPress wins

Anything with a large or complicated shop. Membership sites with tiers and permissions. Deep integrations with older business software. Very large content libraries with hundreds of posts and complex categories.

If your project is one of those, WordPress or something similar is the right answer and I will say so.

The cost nobody mentions

Compare the five year cost, not the build cost. WordPress usually adds hosting, plugin licences and maintenance every month. Framer bundles more of that in. For small businesses the gap over five years is usually larger than the difference in build price.

How to decide

List what the site must do. If nothing on your list needs custom functionality, pick the option with the least ongoing maintenance. Your future self will be grateful on a busy week.
