Do I Need a Website If I Sell Tickets Through Eventbrite?
Ticket platforms sell tickets. They do not build your reputation, own your audience, or answer the questions that come before a purchase.
What the platforms are for
Eventbrite, Skiddle, Dice and the rest are checkout. They are good at taking money and handling entry. That is worth paying for and I would not tell anybody to stop using them.
What they are not is your shop window. Your listing lives inside their brand, next to competing events, and disappears the moment the date passes.
What you lose by relying on them alone
Your archive. Every event you have run is gone, so you have nothing to show a venue, a sponsor or an act you want to book.
Your search visibility. People searching your event name land on a page that is not yours, and people searching for the sort of thing you run never find you at all.
And your audience. The platform holds the relationship. You are renting access to your own customers.
What your own site should do
Everything that happens before the checkout. What the event is, who it is for, what it looks and feels like, who is playing or racing or running it, travel and timings, and the answers to the questions people ask before committing.
Then send them to the ticket platform to pay. Best of both. You keep the reputation and the search traffic, they handle the transaction.
The practical test
Search your own event name. If the first result is somebody else’s platform, you are building their asset instead of yours.
How much site do you need
Less than you think. For a single recurring event, one strong page plus an archive is often enough. For a venue or a promoter running a programme, you want listings that update themselves.
