How to Structure an Events Website So Adding an Event Takes Two Minutes

Most event sites are slow to update, so they stop being updated. Structure is what fixes that, not discipline.

Why event sites go stale

Not laziness. Friction. If adding a date means editing four pages, updating a hero, remembering to move last month into an archive and re-uploading an image at the right size, it will not get done in a busy week.

So the site shows an event that happened in March, and everybody quietly stops trusting it.

The fix is structure, not effort

Events belong in a collection, not on pages. One entry holds the date, times, location, lineup or schedule, price, ticket link and images. The site then reads from that entry everywhere it needs to.

Once that is true, adding an event updates the homepage, the listings, the individual event page and anything linked to it. Past dates fall into the archive on their own because the date decides, not you.

Where cross referencing earns its keep

Link artists, drivers, venues or hosts to events and the relationship works both ways. An artist page lists every night they played. An event page shows who is on. You typed each name once.

This is the difference between a site that gets richer every time you use it and one that gets more work every time you use it.

What to insist on

Ask whoever builds it to show you the update. Not the design, the update. Add a fake event in front of you and see how many steps it takes. If it is more than a couple of minutes, it is built wrong.

Two examples of it working

Klub runs on eight cross referencing collections, so one new event ripples through the hero, the listings, the archive and the linked mixes. See the Klub build.

Redline does the same for motorsport, with sessions, grids and race day timings all driven from the event entry. See the Redline build.
